Touch München kicked off its tournament season on 4th May in Berlin with a mixture of experience and developing talent. Playing with 7 guys and 5 girls (young Nic was counted as a girl, but with his rapid growth and demon step this will not last for long), the team demolished the Blazers 11-1 in glorious morning sunshine. That gave the team an opportunity to dust off the cob webs and learn each other's names again, in readiness for a much tougher encounter against the Verona team. Much of this team played in the Italian SMX team so they played together well. Touch München performed well, but still made a few too many errors to earn the win, losing 3-5. We then brushed off Berlin Black 7-1 on the way to second in the group.

This earned us a match against the defending champions, the European Allstars team "Inglorious Basterds". They were in a class of their own not just in this match, but in the entire tournament, so it was no surprise that they ran away with the match 10-0. It was positive to see that our girls and boys could lift themselves further under pressure and against strong opposition, and the defence of our middles earned praise from some bystanders. Against the Monarchs, a mixture of Austrian and Hungarian players, the team battled through the fatigue to come out winners 4-2, but it was a match characterised by lost opportunities. Somehow this brought us to our usual opponent for the 5th vs 6th playoff, the Berlin Reds. With two hours rest before this match this gave the older players a chance to "repair" themselves, and amazingly we got through this match with all 12 players still running. The full strength Berlin team proved to be too strong for us, with their well organised defence and incisive attack off their drives. They were the better team on the day and ran out 6-1 winners (with one further Munich touchdown not marked on the scorecard).

Touch München found a second wind in the evening with its rendition of ... Baby One More Time. It certainly would have given Cascada a run for her money.

Well done to the team and thank you to Captain Errol for taking control of the ship, and to Baxter for support with the coaching.
