Match Reports

A new team of champions have been crowned! The Mexicans overcame a damp pitch, fading light and some stubborn opposition to win the grand final of the 2010 Touch Muenchen 4-on-4 league. The Mexicans, with five players spearheaded by the competition's top touchdown scorer, put on an early touchdown to lead 1-0 before reinforcements came for The Fish. The arrival of Jonno made The Fish more dangerous, but tight defence meant that the teams went into half time at 2-1 to The Mexicans. Jonno put Kate over in the corner off a good run from dummy, while some quick hands saw Baxter dive over in the corner. The second half started evenly but The Mexicans quickly asserted their dominance. While The Fish were purposeful in attack, The Mexicans were quick to shut them down and some excellent switching plays culminated in a touchdown for Randy, while a fantastic long pass from Randy to Susie put them up 4-1. That was where the game ended.

J. Mullender top scorer 2010

Thank you to those who came down to the grand final and to drinks afterwards, and thank you to all who participated in the inaugural league of Touch Muenchen. We have seen some fantastic touch, with the quality improving with every week. I know that it has been a huge effort for some of the participants to come to the English Garden so early, so it was fantastic to see that not a single match has been forfeited due to lack of players. I should thank the pool players for helping out there as well.

Congratulations to Mully for taking out the top scorer honours with 20 touchdowns in the six round robin matches, with another one in the final. He has requested a sparkling ball as the trophy - we're working on it.

Next year we will start the league earlier in the summer so that it can run for longer. Who knows, perhaps some players are already forming their teams for next year!
